Invisalign FAQ: What You Need To Know
While Dr. Seligman will cover all the important details about Invisalign aligners, here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions.
What is Invisalign®?
Essentially invisible braces, Invisalign utilizes the latest in 3D computer imaging technology to create custom plastic aligners for your teeth. The Invisalign aligners work by exerting a gentle, but controlled steady force on your teeth, allowing them to slowly shift into place. You’ll have new aligners to insert roughly every other week, based on Dr. David Seligman’s recommendations as he plans your teeth movements.
Can I ever take my Invisalign aligners off?
Yes, you can take them out for eating, as well as brushing and flossing your teeth. However, you should keep them in while sleeping.
Can I eat and speak normally with Invisalign?
Yes! For eating, there are no restrictions as you’ll take out your aligners to eat. You will have a brief adjusting period when you receive your first aligners, and you may notice that you have a bit of a lisp for the first few days. However, you will quickly become accustomed to speaking with Invisalign and will quickly have no issues.
Is it painful?
You will feel some mild discomfort or sensitivity in the first day you receive a new set of aligners, as this means your teeth are moving into place. Beyond that, there should be no pain.
How long is the Invisalign treatment?
This depends on your unique situation. However, treatment could be as short as six months. We offer accelerated Invisalign for adults and for teens! For more information, visit Dr. David Seligman for a consultation.
Is Invisalign right for me?
There’s only one way to know for sure if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign—Please give us a call to schedule a consultation and we’ll let you know as soon as possible.
How much does Invisalign cost?
Costs vary dramatically based on various factors, such as the unique nature of your case, the amount of aligners you’ll need, and your insurance. Once you’ve had your first consultation, Dr. Seligman will be able to give you an accurate price.
What are the differences between Invisalign aligners versus traditional braces?
Braces are essentially metal brackets which are glued to your teeth and then are tied with wire and rubber bands. Meanwhile, Invisalign is almost invisible and is made from BPA-free plastic. Both options straighten your teeth, but with different benefits. Braces are often more painful, and your food options can be more limited. Speak to your orthodontist to find out which choice is best for you.
How do I keep my aligners clean?
Simply brush them with a toothbrush and rinse them in lukewarm water—the more frequently your brush them, the cleaner they will stay in the long term!
Will I have to wear a retainer after treatment?
Yes, no matter whether you have braces or Invisalign, your results will only last with a retainer. However, down the road you will only have to use it at night.
